Building Systems

Dive into the systems that bring our building to life. Explore in several ways: through live data feeds, detailed descriptions, and illustrations.

Integrated Building Design

Making better, more sustainable buildings takes more than energy efficient light bulbs. Learn about key areas of our building's design.

FinishesIn addition to the important choices that we make for how to shape, construct and run a building, intentional sustainable choices can be made for the interior finishes.  These include such items as woods, tile, linoleum, carpets and paints.

Important considerations for finishes are if they are made from non-toxic or stable materials, are rapidly renewable, made from recycled materials, and sustainably harvested.

Here are some highlights:

  • Wood products at CM are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.
  • Info-desk countertop is made from recycled glass.
  • Paints are "Low-VOC"- meaning they don't emit potentially harmful compounds.
  • Carpets are made from recycled nylon and are applied in tiles rather than rolls- making for easy and less-wasteful replacement.
  • Linoleum is naturally derived and applied with non-toxic adhesives.
  • Bathroom tiles are 50% recycled content ceramic
